150 youths from all over Los Angeles enjoyed a free educational workshop for sports medicine this past weekend at the Mira Costa High School.
Dr. Keith Feder and Dr. Carol Frey have spearheaded this incredible opportunity for students interested in sports medicine since 1996. More than 2500 kids have graduated from these free “Team to Win” workshops.
The West Coast Center for Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine (#WCSMF #sportsmedicine #southbay) offers both beginning and advanced workshops, in addition to ongoing internships for high school students.
This outreach program is an “incredible opportunity to pursue your dream of becoming a doctor”, says Isabella who participated in the workshop.
The program is part of Dr. Feder’s and Dr. Frey’s Foundation. ,,Our goal from the get go was to give back to the youngest members of our community and to provide guidance for the students in the field of sports medicine”, says Dr. Feder who is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in America.
The program is free to high school students and emphasizes these primary topics: First Aid/CPR/AED, careers in Sports Medicine, speakers from different medical professions, college opportunities in sports medicine, injury recognition, injury treatment and rehabilitation, emergency management care of injuries, wound care, taping, bandaging, and splinting. The participants get CPR and First Aid certified.
