Biceps Tendon Repair Surgery

What is a biceps tendon tear?

When the biceps tendon in the arm separates from either the shoulder or the elbow, it is called a biceps rupture or “tear.” When this happens, it can be painful and you may lose some arm strength. If your pain, cramping or other symptoms cannot be relieved with conservative treatments, or if you require a complete recovery of strength, you may benefit from biceps tendon repair surgery.

How is biceps tendon repair performed?

There are several different surgical approaches to reattach the biceps tendon to the bone. The one you have will depend on the specific type of tear you have.

Complications of this type of surgery are rare, and re-rupture of the same tendon is also very rare. As with all surgery, there is a small risk of complications such as infection and bleeding.
